The Women Singles had the first two qualifying rounds in the first day of competition. In those rounds, qualifiers from Europe dominated in their groups as they nailed two points. In addition, Korea had two while the one and only Chinese qualifier joined the successful paddlers for the day.
Poland, Germany and Netherlands were the biggest winners in the first two qualifying rounds. Polish Kinga Stefanska, Magdalena Szczerkowska, and Klaudia Kusinska did not only nail two victories each but crushed their respective opponents as well. As a result, these paddlers rank first in their groups.
Meanwhile, Germany has Winter Sabine who posted two consecutive sweep victories and Kathrin Muhlbach who had 4-1 in her two matches. Netherlands also has two successful qualifiers with Linda Creemers and Yana Timina who also showed wonderful results.
In addition to the the European success, Barbora Balazova of Slovakia and Sonja Obradovic of Norway also finished as leaders in their respective groups. Unfortunately for the host Sweden, their qualifiers Daniela Moskovits, Michelle Quach, Jennifer Jonsson, Maria Engelson and Linda Bergstrom all faced defeat against their opponents. Only Sara Rask contributed a chance for Sweden as she defeated Lee Da Som of South Korea in the first round. However, Rask failed against Yang Yang in the second round.
As Europe was posting success in the qualifying rounds, the Asian delegates also made their marks in the competition. The South Koreans Dang Ye Seo and Yoo Eun Chong made their presence felt as they also scored two points in the rounds. Meanwhile, the one and only qualifier from China Yang Yang will try her best to be with her compatriots in the main draw as she swept her way through the hurdles.

The 2011 Swedish Open started off today with the first two qualifying rounds of the Women Singles in Stockholm. The female qualifiers were divided into twelve groups where the crowd favorites from Europe displayed impressive strength as they nailed two straight victories in their respective groupings. Today, the biggest winners were Poland, followed by Germany and Netherlands.
