The semifinal round of the Women's Doubles immediately followed the first round of competition today in Doha for the 2011 Qatar Peace and Sport Cup. In this round, the Unified Korean both posted success as their men and women booked their place in the finals. While the Koreans celebrated their victories, the China-Qatar partnership failed in both men and women divisions. Instead the US/Russia was the other victorious team into the finals.

Women's Doubles

Kim Kyung Ah / Kim Hye Song vs Carole Grundisch / Natsumi Miyake

The Unified Korean pair wasn't given an easy start in the match as Carole Grindisch and Natsumi Miyake recovered in the first set and overtook to 12-10. In the second set, Kim Kyung Ah and Kim Hye Song successfully leveled in 1-1 with 11-6. After the tie, both pairs fought really strong but as the game ended, the Unified Korea scored their second set with 11-9.

In the fourth set, the two Kim's had a 9-6 advantage but allowed their opponent to catch up and overtook to 10-9. The Unified Korea tried to end the match but failed as the French-Japanese successfully leveled in 2-2 with 14-12. In the deciding set, Kim Kyung Ah and Kim Hye Song didn't waste much time and ended the match victoriously with 11-3.

The male counterpart of the Unified Korea had to face Chen Qi and the host Ahmad Al-Mohannadi. Contrary to expectation, the Unified Korea quickly gained momentum and control over the table as they dominated the first two sets with 11-8 and 11-4. In the third set, the China / Qatar pair played better as they tried to recover in the match. However, Unified Korea was just in their element and completed a sweep victory with 11-9.
