Junior Girls and Boys
In the Junior Girls competition, both the two two seeds Lily Zhang and Erica Wu earned their places in the finals after winning against Prachi Jha and Diane Jiang respectively. In the final match, the second seed Erica Wu settled as the runner up after facing defeat against Lily Zhang. The top seed scored an impressive sweep of 11-6, 11-9, and 11-7 clinching the championship titles for the Junior Girls event.
Meanwhile, a different scenario took place in the boys department as the finals match was between the seventh seed Theodore Tran and the fifth seed Michael Landers. The top seed Andrew Chen lost in a crushing defeat in the quarterfinals against Michael Landers who also defeated the second seed Grant Li in the penultimate stage.
In the final hurdle, after winning against the top seeds, Michael Landers finished the match victorious with 11-9, 10-12, 11-8, and 11-5 winning the championship title in the Junior Boys event. Lastly, Andrew Chen settled in sixth place while Grant Li is in third place.
Cadet Girls and Boys
In the Cadet Girls event, the first seed Prachi Jha successfully reached the finals against the sixth seed Isabel Chu as the second seed Amy Wang failed to reach the quarterfinals. In the final judgement, it was indeed Prachi Jha who displayed excellent performance after sweeping her way into the championship title with 11-4, 11-6 and 11-7. The second seed Amy Wang finished seventh.
In the boys division, the fourth seed Tran Theodore reached the final hurdle against the seventh seed Kanak Jha. The top seed Charles Deng failed in the quarterfinals against Tran Theodore who won against Kunal Chodri in the semifinals. In the final hurdle, Tran Theodore remained undefeated as he defeated Kanak Jha in 11-9, 12-14, 11-9, and 11-9.
The top seeds of the Mixed Doubles Peter Li / Lily Zhang and Ariel Hsing / Timothy Wang successfully landed in the final hurdle and after four sets, the second seeds Hsing and Wang clinched the championship title of the Mixed Doubles with 12-10, 11-13, 11-6, and 11-3.
As for the Women's Doubles, first seed Erica Wu / Gao Jun displayed an excellent performance as they nailed two consecutive sweep victories into the finals. They won against Lily Zhang / Amy Feng in the semifinals with 13-11, 11-6, and 11-1, then against the second seed Judy Hugh / Ariel Hsing in the finals with 11-6, 11-9, and 11-8.
After facing defeat in the Cadet Boys and Junior Boys competitions respectively, Charles Deng and Grant Li reached the final hurdle in the Men's Doubles. As ninth seeds, they faced the second seed in the event Han Xiao / Timothy Wang. However, it was the more experienced tandem of Xiao and Wang who clinched the championship title in a wonderful 12-10, 11-5, and 11-6.
After winning the Junior Girls event, Lily Zhang once again showed a wonderful performance as she reached the final hurdles against Ariel Hsing. As the top seed, Lily Zhang continued to dominate in her every match as she swept her way in every round.
However in the final match, the second seed Ariel Hsing was the more impressive player. Ariel Hsing scored 11-5, 8-11, 12-10, 11-9, and 11-7 forcing the Junior Girls champion to settle as runner up. Consequently, Ariel Hsing clinched the Women's Singles championship title.
The top seeds in the Men's Singles surprisingly performed poorly as the first seed David Yong Xiang Zhuang lost by default in the round 16 while the second seed Mark Hazinski lost in the round 16 as well. After winning against Mark Hazinski, the tenth seed Han Xiao went straight to the finals against the sixth seed Peter Li.
In the final hurdle, Peter Li ended the winning streak of Han Xiao as he won in 11-9, 11-7, 11-7, 11-6 and ultimately clinched the championship title of the Men's Singles of the 2011 US Nationals.
As a special mention, the Chinese turned American Olympic silver medalist and world champion Gao Jun was also proclaimed as winner of the Women's over 40 after she won against Marina Letman in 11-6, 11-5, and 11-6. Gao Jun was inducted into the USATT Hall of Fame and is a co-owner of the Gao Jun Table Tennis Club in California.
