Surely the sponsors of the just concluded 2011 Volkswagen Cup in Guangzhou, where the big champions both received USD 50,000 and a brand new Volkswagen Scirocco each, have really allotted a large amount of money.
However, such amount definitely paid off after the release of the report of ITTF which showed a whopping 70 million Chinese viewers. Even the ITTF President, Adham Sharara was shocked by how the tournament gained so much viewers in just two days.
This year’s Volkswagen Cup was considered to be star studded with the best players from different countries competing for the coveted prize money and the brand new Scirocco. Furthermore, the exceptional performances of the players, where they all leveled the playing field with their skills and speed, made the tournament more exciting.
President Sharara was a bit shocked by the result: “the 70 million viewers proved the popularity of the Classic event and showed that the sponsor’s efforts and resources will surely get very good returns.”
The ITTF also had a live telecast through the ITTF TV which helped increase awareness and viewers worldwide.
