In the round of 16, Tie Yana advanced more in the competition after winning against the Serbian player Ana Marie Erdelji in 4-1. This match was a pretty easy match for the Hong Kong player, currently 16th in the world, Tie Yana, where she was able to dominate the table in most of the rounds. On the other hand, ranked 102 in the world, Ana Marie Erdelji’s performance, particularly in the fourth round where she overcame Tie Yana, is also worth acknowledging.

In the first round, Erdelji and Tie Yana both played equally good and fought close enough with a score 3-3. In the middle of the round, Tie Yana managed to go farther Erdelji with a three point lead 8-5. After the lead, Tie Yana got stuck in 8 points and Erdelji managed to tie at 8-8, then immediately took a lead of 9-8. Erdelji reached the match point first but Tie Yana was able to catch up and tied in 10-10. Afterwhich, they tied again in 11-11, 12-12, 13-13, then 14-14. Afetr the tie in 14, Tie Yana reached match point and finally ending the very long round with 16-14.

With a one round victory under her belt, Tie Yana immediately took control over the table and took the first three points in the second round. While Tie Yana, was doing great, Erdelji was so lagging behind in terms of performance and defense. Tie Yana was able to post a four point lead with 6-2, then 8-4. Towards the end of the round, Tie Yana continued to play very strongly and reached match point first with a solid six point lead 10-4. Tie Yana eventually ended the round in an 11-6 score.

After the wonderful round for Tie Yana, she continued to dominate and scored five straight points at the start of the third round leaving nothing for Erdelji, 5-0. After Tie Yana reached the fifth point, Erdelji managed to earn her first point, 5-1. Erdelji, this time still did not show anything that would surprise the Hong Kong player and was far behind Tie Yana scoring 9-4 to the latter’s advantage. Once again, Tie Yana first reached match point with a five point lead 10-5. Tie Yana allowed Erdelji to score one more and finally ending the round with an 11-6 score.

This time, Erdelji got a little bit of momentum after earning three straight points at the start of the fourth round. Tie Yana, at the start showed signs of exhaustion and was behind the Serbian player in 1-5. Erdelji continued to dominate the table in this round and managed to maintain her lead in 8-4. On the other hand, Tie Yana continued to play so unlikely from her previous rounds. She continued to commit errors and her shots were long. This time, Erdelji reached match point first and finally earning a one round victory with an 11-5 score.

After having to extend one more round, hopes for Erdelji grew stronger and scored the first two points in the fifth round. However, Tie Yana didn’t allow Erdelji to enjoy such lead any longer and managed to tie in 3-3. Afetr the tie, Tie Yana managed to reverse the fate and took the lead in 4-6. After the time out called by the Serbian team, Erdelji was stuck in 4 points, while Tie Yana score three more points, 9-4.  This time, Tie Yana is now one point closer to victory after reaching the match point first and finally ending the round in 11-5.
