The Guoping (Chinese National Team) returned victoriously today from Rotterdam where they swept all five gold medals. The whole team arrived around 12 noon in the Beijing Capital Airport, and the focuses of attention were, of course, the singles champions Zhang Jike and Ding Ning.

In the just concluded 51st world championships in Rotterdam, China did not just win but once again, had the honor in defending their “national sport.”

The whole team was scheduled to arrive around 12:40 noon, but the plane arrived half an hour earlier than expected. The team members, sponsors, media and some fans triumphantly ushered the welcoming of the Guoping. Furthermore, they also planned a huge welcoming party for the whole team.

Upon arrival, the team was immediately interviewed by the reporters. Most of the questions were about team leadership which is a problem that the team has been facing after the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

For the men’s team, Liu Guoliang said: “Leading the younger generation, Zhang Jike has the best competitive state which is very good. This gives a tremendous impact towards the veterans Ma Lin and Wang Liqin.”

The Chinese Nuping, on the other hand, has also lost its leader after the two time Olympic champion Zhang Yining has retired. When Ding Ning was asked about the topic, she said shyly: “Of course, I want to be like Zhang Yining but I still don’t know if I would be able to achieve the same success as Zhang Yining’s.”

For high profile issues like the London Olympics, Liu Guoliang said: “The whole team is now preparing to enter into the Olympic state after the world championship and every player has the chance to participate in London.”
