The first quarterfinal round was between the two winners from the Universiade Games Xu Xin and Yan An. The first set went to Xu Xin with 11-5. In the second set, Xu Xin continued to lead in 7-3. However, Yan An managed to overtake and at the end leveled things in 1-1 with 13-11. After which, the two paddlers fought strong and tied in 6-6. After the tie, Yan An posted his secind point with 11-9.
Yan An maintained his momentum and scored his third point with 11-7. In the fifth set, Yan An led in 5-2. Xu Xin caught up and tied in 9-9. After the tie, Xu Xin continued to fight and tied in 11-11. After several match points, Xu Xin finally added one more round with 15-13. After his second win, Xu Xin led in 5-1 then led to 11-5, leveling in 3-3.
In the deciding match, Yan An started with a lead of 4-3. Xu Xin added two points while Yan An added three more in 7-5. Towards the end, Yan An reached match point ahead in 10-8. Eventually, Yan An unbelievably continued his success in the competition as he defeated Xu Xin in 11-9.
Oh Sang Eun (KOR) 0-4 Zhang Jike (CHN)
The ninth seed Oh Sang Eun of Korea faced the new world champion Zhang Jike in the quarterfinal round. In the first set, two paddlers tied in 6-6. After the tie, Zhang Jike first gained advantage in 11-9. After which, Zhang Jike increased his level of performance and scored an impressive 11-4. In the third set, Zhang Jike started with 5-2. Evenetually, Zhang Jike nailed his third point with 11-7.
In the fourth set, Oh Sang Eun was expected to fight strong however the Korean veteran was behind in 1-5. However, after a timeout called by the Korean camp, Oh Sang Eun managed to narrow his deficit to 5-7. Despite efforts from the Korean player, Zhang Jike still maintained his lead and ended the match with 11-5.
Ma Long (CHN) 4-0 Joo Se Hyuk (CHN)
The eighth seed Joo Se Hyuk started the match with a 7-5 lead. However, Ma Long was just warming up and then eventually overtook in 10-8. Eventually Ma Long nailed the first set with 11-8. Both players started the second match with a tie in 5-5, then 6-6. After the tie, Ma Long reached the set point then went directly to 11-8.
In the third set, Ma Long dominated the table as he nailed a wonderful lead of 8-3. Eventually, Ma Long ended the set with a fantastic 11-4. In the fourth set, Ma Long continued to lead in 5-0. At this point, Joo Se Hyuk is in such danger as he continued to miss every shot in 0-9. The Korean player scored five more points before Ma Long sealed his semifinal spot with 11-5.
Jun Mizutani (JPN) 4-2 Dimitrij Ovtcharov (GER)

The only Japanese player in the round Jun Mizutani started the match very well with a 6-3 lead. Eventually, Mizutani finfished the set with 11-5. After an impressive round, Jun Mizutani continued his success and scored another point with 11-8. After a 2-0 lead of Mizutani, the only European player in the round Dimitrij Ovtcharov was able to make his presence felt with an 11-4.
In the fourth set, Jun Mizutani scored his third point with 11-9. However, Ovtcharov immeidately reversed the score to his advantage in the fifth set. Ovtcharov posted a 2-3 overall score. In the sixth set, the Japanese Jun Mizutani defeated Ovtcharov in 12-10 and eventually advancing further into the compeittion.
