The Harmony 2011 China Open had the Round 16 for the Men's Singles today. After the round, another top seed failed to advance further while two of the surviving qualifiers got denied in their passage to the quarterfinals.
The only qualifiers who survived the previous hurdles are the Chinese Yan An, Robert Gardos of Austria and the Russian Alexey Liventsov who simultaneously defeated Ma Lin and Seo Hyun Deok. Today, only one of them prevailed while the hopes of the other two were crushed by Xu Xin and Dimitrij Ovtcharov.

In this round, Xu Xin swept the Austrian qualifier Robert Gardos in 4-0. Meanwhile, the luck for Alexey Liventsov vanished after a wonderful and fulfilling matches yesterday. The Russian qualifier posted a 1-4 defeat against the strongest European player alive in the tournament, Dimitrij Ovtcharov of Germany.
While the two qualifiers posted their losses, the youngest Chinese in the event Yan An prevailed in the round. The highest seed Wang Hao followed the fate of Ma Lin and Samsonov as he was blocked by his teamamte in Bayi Yan An.
In addition to Yan An and Xu Xin, the other Chinese paddlers Zhang Jike and Ma Long successfully went through the hurdle. Zhang Jike, now the highest seed alive in the tournament won against the eleventh seed Chuang Chih Yuan of Taipei in 4-1 while Ma Long posted the same score against Japanese Kaii Yoshida.
The Koreans also had their victories today with Oh Sang Eun and Joo Se Hyuk. Oh Sang Eun defeated the lower ranked compatriot Kim Min Seok in 4-2 while Joo Se Hyuk crushed the remaining Singaporean Gao Ning in 4-0.

The fifth seed Jun Mizutani of Japan completed the lineup for the quarterfinals as he survuved the challege from Bastian Steger of Germany in 4-3.
