Just recently, the Chinese Table Tennis Team announced their lineup for the Dortmund World Championships and Ma Lin's name appeared on the list as expected. This will be Ma Lin's seventh participation in such platform, making him the only player in the history of the Chinese Table Tennis to achieve the most number of appearance in the World Team Championships.
In his six appearances in the World Team Championships, Ma Lin was able to contribute to the Chinese victory in five consecutive times. "Maybe this will be my last World Team Championships. My seventh appearance is a record but will also be a memory. So I hope I wouldn't have any regrets in the upcoming competition. I will go all out and do everything in my power to help the team win." Ma Lin said.
In 2000, Ma Lin first appeared in the World Team Championships and only played in the semifinals. However, Ma Lin regretted not going into the finals where the Chinese Team lost against Sweden in 2-3. Since then, Ma Lin has successively contributed to the Chinese victory.
"Currently, I am definitely the Team's elderly. In fact, I am starting to consider the problems in my future development. However this year is the Olympic year and all other games are centered into this competition. I cannot engage in special privileges. I must train hard to be ready for combat." Ma Lin added.
"I am definitely no stranger in the World Team Championships and I can also say that I am not nervous. After all, I have consecutively been in the competition and have been in a tensed Closed Training. However, this competition for me is very significant. Reaching a record of seven appearances is also very difficult so I hope I would have wonderful memories from the competition. My goal is to help the team win." Ma Lin concluded.
