The 2012 China Open Men Doubles had its conclusion today in Shanghai with the top two seeds in the finals - first seed Ma Lin / Zhang Jike and second seed Ma Long / Wang Hao.
Ma Long and Wang Hao quickly established their partnership in the match as they nailed the first two sets with 11-8 and another 11-8 respectively. After losing the first two sets, the Ma Lin and Zhang Jike partnership took the control over the table and posted a 5-1 lead. However, as the set progressed, Ma Long and Wang Hao made their presence felt and narrowed their deficit in 7-8. Despite recovery, Ma Lin and Zhang Jike took the set with 11-7.
The fourth set placed the top seeds Ma Lin and Zhang Jike in a dangerous place as Ma Long and Wang Hao finished it with another 11-8. This meant that the second seeds were closer to the title.
Indeed, the wonderful entrance of Ma Long and Wang Hao set the pace of the match as it progressed. However, Ma Lin and Zhang Jike did not allow an easy loss and gave some pressure when they leveled in 9-9 then in 10-10. Despite some resistance, Ma Long and Wang Hao survived the match with 12-10.
Last year's China Open, Ma Lin won the Men Singles. However, this year, Ma Lin did not just lose in the Singles but also in the Doubles. Eventually, it was Ma Long and Wang Hao who won the Men Doubles in five sets.
As for the Women Doubles, Hong Kong's Jiang Huajun and Lee Ho Ching got the championship title without lifting a finger after their opponent Ding Ning and Li Xiaoxia withdrew. Ding Ning was reported to be sent to a local hospital due to dizziness from the semifinal match earlier in the day.
