Orenburg is one step closer to its first European Championns League's title after sweeping with UMMC in the first leg match of the final. Michael Maze's and Alexander Shibaev couldn't do anything against the performance showed by Dimitrij Ovtcharov and Vladimir Samsonov and probably they are thinking about giving a suprise in the second second leg match as in the previous matches to capture the European title.

Great style showed by Dimitrij Ovtcharov, Vladimir Samsonov and Alexei Smirnov allowed Orenburg to be closer to its first ever Champions League´s title. UMMC stood victorious in the last two matches against Orenburg and one of them was just last weekend in the last round of the Russian Premier League. On that occasion, Alexander Shibaev overcame Dimitrij Ovtcharov by 3:0, while Michael Maze was swept by Samsonov. In the match between Smirnov and Yingchao Hou, the Chinese player emerged successfully. However, Ovtcharov and Smirnov learned from their mistakes and gave victories to Orenburg this time, while Samsonov kept the same tactic.

Dimitrij Ovtcharov faced Alexander Shibaev in the opening match. Despite the close start, Ovtcharov was eager to take revenge on his defeat suffered last weekend at the Russian League and won the first game by 11:6. Shibaev didn't give up and kept fighting but the German player didn't hesitate and got the second game by 11:9. The third game was close at the beginning, the Russian player complained that Ovtcharov took too much time before serving, so the umpire gave the German a yellow card. Ovtcharov got annoyed, what gave him more courage and secured his victory by 11:5.

Hou had two game points but he missed them and the Russian player stood victorious by 12:10 again. In the third game, Hou had a speedy recovery and swept with Smirnov by 11:4 but it didn't last so long for the Chinese player because Smirnov dominated the fourth game and sealed victory for his team by 11:8.

The second leg match will be held on 17th May in Orenburg. We cannot forget that UMMC was in the same situation in quarter and semifinals but they turned the match around in the second leg match at home. However, this time they will have to fight back in foreign soil.
