The 2012 Japan Open Men Singles reached the semifinal stage today with the first match between two veterans Oh Sang Eun from South Korea, sixth seed, and Singaporean Gao Ning, fifth seed in the competition.
The sixth seed from South Korea, Oh Sang Eun entered into the arena with great strength and had the first advantage with 11-7. In the second set, Oh Sang Eun carried out the momentum as Gao Ning was struggling to recover. At the end, Oh Sang Eun posted a 2-0 lead with 11-8.
After losing in the previous sets, Gao Ning played better and kept up with the scores against his opponent. However, this did not destroy the confidence of Oh Sang Eun as he first reached set point in 10-8. Despite being down with two points, Gao Ning managed to catch up and tied in 10-10. Eventually, the set extended to several set points before Oh Sang Eun sealed it with a tight 18-16.
In the fourth set, Oh Sang Eun was still in control and led in 9-5. At this point, Gao Ning was not able to recover. Oh Sang Eun completed a sweep victory with 11-5 and will advance into the finals of the Men Singles.
