The Chinese Men Team had their warm up match yesterday night in Xiamen for the London Olympics Men Team event. In the competition, Olympic Team's Zhang Jike, Wang Hao and Ma Long were not able to secure confidence from the spectators.
As of now, the Chinese Men Team, particularly Zhang Jike who lost two points in the match, still haven't said anything about the mock competition. However, in previous interviews, Zhang Jike has already expressed his views on representing China in London.
"We represent the country. As we play more, our sense of responsibility and honor gets stronger as well. When you have the results, you will feel proud of yourself." Zhang Jike said, indicating his willingness to take on the challenge and carry the mission entrusted by the national sport to him.
Criticisms are not new to Zhang Jike. Even the head coach Liu Guoliang is considered to be his biggest critic. Although Liu Guoliang has already seen some good changes in the maturity of Zhang Jike, there is still that hint of doubt on the player's capacity.
Last night, this hint of doubt most likely increased. Among the three Olympic warriors, Zhang Jike was probably the biggest loser in the competition. He succumb to two crushing defeats against Xu Xin and Ma Lin.
Although Xu Xin and Ma Lin have some succussful matches against Zhang Jike in the past, people were expecting a Zhang Jike worthy of their confidence last night. The match was a testing ground for the Olympic Team as they showed what they learned from their Closed Training. However, Zhang Jike failed big time.
These results actually raised some questions in the Chinese internet, particularly in Weibo. Some were asking: what is happening to Zhang Jike? He is the word's number one right? Is he really prepared for the Olympics?
Zhang Jike is known for his high self-confidence. In an interview before he said: "I never doubted about myself." Could he still say this after his last night's performance? Can he still say this in the London Olympics? Be the judge!
