Fabiola Ramos will lead the Venezuela delegation in the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. Ramos was chosen by their compatriots in a poll that gathered other Venezuelan athletes. This is the fifth time in a row that the Venzuelan player will compete in the Games, so this time it had to be different. Luisana Perez, friend and doubles patner of Ramos, started a internet campaign called "Vote for Fabiola" to help her.
Perez's effort were paid off as her friend was chosen the flag bearer. Ramos confessed being in shock and she couldn't believe that she had won. "I knew about the nomination but never imagined I would win; it is an honour to have been nominated with great track athletes" added Ramos.
However, Ramos was about not qualifying to London. She was the last one player who secured her place at the Latin American Olympic Qualification Tournament held in Rio de Janeiro in March. In the last match she faced her friend Paulina Vega from Chile. The match was close and players were forced to play a deciding game. Ramos got three match points but the Chilean player leveled and forced a tie break. Finally, Ramos closed the match and booked the last Latin American spot in London.
