The first day of competition in Rotenburg came to end with three players in quarterfinals. Other players such as Vladimir Samsonov, Chen Weixing, Adrien Mattenet, Adrian Crisan, Zoran Primorac and Andrej Gacina also competed in the Olympic test. It was expected that players such as Bojan Tokic, Aleksandar Karakasevic, Alexander Shivaeb, Jorgen Persson and Bastian Steger, among others. However, some of them withdrew from the tournament, while the Swedish legend got injured before the match against Germany for the European Qualification Tournament and Bastian Steger got a tigh injury but it isn't serious.
Timo Boll was the winner of the group 1 after beating Andrej Gacina and Robert Gardos by 3:0. Gardos got the second place of the group by defeating Gacina by 3:0. Dimitrij Ovtcharov won the group 2 as he stood victorious over Adrian Crisan, Jens Lundquist and Zoran Primorac. The second place went to Adrian Crisan after sweeping with Primorac and Lundquist.
Vladimir Samsonov captured the first spot of the group 3 after overcoming Chen Weixing and Kristian Karlsson by 3:0 and 3:2, respectively. Weixing got the second place as he defeated Karlsson by 3:0. Daniel Habesohn surprised as he emerged successfully over Patrick Baum and Adrien Mattenet by 3:1 and 3:0, respectively. Baum reached quarterfinals as he beat Mattenet in five games.
