Vladimir Samsonov crowned champion of the last Olympic test for Europeans held in the German city of Rotenburg. The experienced player stood victorious over Robert Gardos by 4:2 in the final. In his way to victory, Samsonov overcame Patrick Baum by 4:3 and Timo Boll, who withdrew after feeling some discomfort in his arm during the match against Adrian Crisan. On the other hand, Robert Gardos beat Dimitrij Ovtcharov by 4:2 and Chen Weixing by 4:1.
After his victory, Samsonov said that it's good to win a tournament just a week before the Olympics. I hope that I can do also something in London, commented the Belarussian player. However, if Timo had played, he would have won the tournament. I was surprised when he withdrew but I can understand him because he doesn't wan to risk anything for the Olympics, explained Samsonov.
Boll also talked about his withdrawall: "I want to risk nothing before the Olympic Games. In fact, there isn't anything dramatic in my decision. Besides, bicepts recover quickly because they are well supplied with blood." Jorg Rosskopf, German coach, said that they called Boll's doctor yesterday and he said that Timo tried to play today morning but if pain increased, he had to stop. Now Boll will take a short break that it wouldn't affect his current shape. Timo must be in form on 30th when he starts to play in the singles event, added Rosskopf.
