Not much opportunities were given to the opponents of the Chinese Women Team in the London Olympics. Li Xiaoxia and Ding Ning reached the finals in the Women Singles while both, along with Guo Yue successfully defended the Olympic Women Team title.
"After losing the Moscow World Team Championships, our pressure was really big in recent years. However, we are still fortunate. Our strength as a team is still there, our advance techniques are still there, the favourable external environment is still there, and the fine tradition of the Chinese table tennis is still there. These actually gave us the sustaining power in London." Shi Zhihao said.
After the Olympic Games, there was only one word to describe the Chinese Team: "strong." The head coach of the Chinese Women Team Shi Zhihao said that the secret for their Olympic victory was a solid preparation.
"The Olympic Games can be described as thrilling. It has twists and turns. Among those are the difficulties which you discover as you encounter them. Although we encountered misjudgements in our service, poor start, and difficulties from strong opponents, we still came fully prepared for everything. We are able to have a timely adjustments of our techniques and quickly stabilise our morale." Shi Zhihao added.
After Japan surprisingly defeated the Singaporean team in the semi-finals, China already had their eyes on their opponent in the finals. As soon as they won their penultimate match against South Korea, China spent their remaining efforts and time to prepare for the finals. Indeed, all their handwork paid off. China won in an outstanding 3-0.
"The London Olympics gave us our inspiration. Everything should be foolproof. We invested and exceeded the opponents' efforts." Shi Zhihao concluded.
So to all aspiring teams, if you want to win over China, exceed their preparations.
