Sohu Sports. After the 2013 World Championships, the North Korean world champions Kim Hyok Bong and Kim Jong continued their success in the 6th East Asian Games after they clinched the the Mixed Doubles championship title.
Compared to the rest of the teams that participated in the 6th East Asian Games, North Korea's exposure to the international scene is much lesser. However, that did not mean a total disadvantage for them. In the competition, they did not just surprise everyone with their appearance but also with a wonderful performance.
In the Team event, the North Korean Men's Team surprisingly defeated the Japanese Koki Niwa and Yuto Muramatsu in the group stage. However, despite their powerful start, North Korea did not advance into the main draw.
With the World Champions Kim Hyok Bong and Kim Jong on their lineup, North Korea was promising in the Mixed Doubles. Indeed, they used such status in the early part of the competition. In the quarterfinal round, the North Korean champions ousted the top seeds Koki Niwa and Sayaka Hirano. Kim Hyok Bong and Kim Jong scored 6-11, 7-11, 11-5, 11-9, 11-5.

In the semifinals, the North Korean pair continued their momentum and ousted the Chinese partnership of Zhou Yu and Zhao Yan. They scored 13-11, 8-11, 11-6, 11-9, 7-11, 9-11, 11-3.
Then in the finals, Kim Hyok Bong and Kim Jong scored 4-3 against South Koreans Seo Hyun Deok and Yang Ha Eun. The Mixed Doubles title went to North Korea in 11-3, 5-11, 11-8, 11-9, 6-11, 10-12, 11-7.
Aside from the Mixed Doubles, North Korea also made their presence felt in the Singles. Ri Myong Sun defeated Ai Fukuhara while Kim Hyok Bong eliminated Koki Niwa. Both are assured to be in the medal podium already.
