Sohu Sports. The 6th East Asian Games Singles event continued with the other half of the quarterfinals later today, October 11 with another casualty from the Japanese Team, Koki Niwa. Meanwhile, the Fan Zhendong and Chen Meng advanced into the semifinals.
Early this day, the Singles events had the quarterfinal round of the upper half of the draw. It was a successful round for the Chinese Team with Yan An and Zhu Yuling advancing into the semifinals. However, it was the opposite for the Japanese Team who lost Kenta Matsudaira and Ai Fukuhara from the competition.
Tonight, the lower half of the draw had their fight and the hosting team maintained their strength. Fan Zhendong faced the South Korean Lee Sang Su. Compared to his other matches in the competition, it was a rather challenging battle. Fan Zhendong struggled to get a 3-0 lead but in the fourth set, Lee Sang Su played strong and got two straight sets. Amidst the resistance from Lee Sang Su, Fan Zhendong survived with 11-9, 12-10, 11-7, 8-11, 7-11, 11-7.
As for the Women's Singles, Chen Meng joins Zhu Yuling into the next round. She defeated the World Mixed Doubles champion Kim Jong of North Korea in 9-11, 11-8, 11-5, 11-6, 11-9.
While China is dominating the Singles, Japan lost another player in the competition. Koki Niwa struggled against the North Korean World Mixed Doubles champion Kim Hyok Bong. Despite the experience in the international scene, Koki Niwa failed in the match in 2-4.
However, Japan still has hope as Kasumi Ishikawa entered into the semifinals overcoming the challenge from South Korean Seo Hyo Won in 4-3.
