Xu Xin, Zhang Jike, Ma Long, Wang Hao and Yan An were all safe through the Round 16 of the 2013 Qatar Open Men's Singles. They did not just post success but continued their powerful image with a sweep against their challengers. Joining them in the quarterfinals are Chinese Taipei's Chuang Chih Yuan and the Germans Dimitrij Ovtcharov and Patrick Baum who overcame the higher seed Jiang Tianyi of Hong Kong.

ITTF. The 2013 Qatar Open Men's Singles have already determined their quarterfinalists after players have been through the Round 16 today, February 23. All the higher seeds progressed into the next round except for Hong Kong's Jiang Tianyi.

Chinese troops did not give any chances to their opponents in the Round 16 after all of them finished the round with a stunning 4-0.

Top seed Xu Xin accounted for the defeat of Robert Gardos in 11-3, 11-6, 11-8, 11-6. He will meet Chinese Taipei's Chuang Chih Yuan in the quarterfinals. Chuang booked his place in the next round after posting 4-2 against French Adrien Mattenet.

The second seed and winner in Kuwait Open Zhang Jike continued his wonderful performance and nailed a 4-0 against Tang Peng. Unlike Xu Xin, Zhang Jike was challenged especially in the fourth set. Zhang Jike finished 11-7, 11-5, 12-10, 21-19. He will meet his teammate Yan An in the quarterfinals. Yan An progressed into the next round with a 4-0 against Marcos Freitas in 11-5, 11-4, 11-5, 13-11.

Zhang Jike's last encounter against Yan An was in the eighth round of the Chinese Super League where he was swept in 0-3. Let us wait if Zhang Jike will be able to redeem himself against this promising rookie considering that both are under the supervision of Xiao Zhan.

The third seed Ma Long was the most powerful among all of them after he posted a stunning 11-2, 11-2, 11-5, 11-4 against Singaporean veteran Gao Ning. Ma Long is scheduled to face the German and 2012 Olympic bronze medalist Dimitrij Ovtcharov in the quarterfinals. Ovtcharov won in 4-2 against Russian Kirill Skachkov.

Lastly, Wang Hao played even better in the round compared to the previous with a 4-0 against English Liam Pitchford. Wang Hao scored 11-2, 11-5, 11-3, 11-8 and will battle against Patrick Baum in the quarterfinals. As the 17th seed, Baum overcame the 8th seed from Hong Kong Jiang Tianyi in 4-2 (11-4, 9-11, 8-11, 11-7, 13-11, 11-7).
