An upset was recorded in the very last day of the 2013 World Team Cup after the Grand Slam champion Zhang Jike was defeated by Chen Chien An. In addition to such defeat, the Chinese Taipei delegation came prepared for battle and inflicted great pressure against the formidable team. However, despite such a challenge, China still managed to emerge victorious after a very intense epic battle.

ITTF. The Men's Team event has came to its conclusion today, Easter Sunday in Guangzhou for the 2013 World Team Classic with China and Chinese Taipei in the finals. After ending the hopes of Egypt, can Taipei continue their momentum against China?

Xu Xin was first into the arena against the leading name in the Chinese Taipiei's camp, Chuang Chih Yuan. Despite against a veteran and a player who has stayed in the world's top ten, the much younger Xu Xin seemed to have just passed by and swept Chuang Chih Yuan.

After approximately 20 minutes in the battle, Xu Xin nailed 11-8, 11-2, 11-3.

The next players on cue were the reigning world and Olympic champion Zhang Jike for China and the left-handed rookie Chen Chien An for Chinese Taipei. Against a Grand Slam champion, Chen Chien An was brave enough to attack and he earned the points to seal the opening set.

After a successful opening game, Chen Chien An's confidence was more solid. Despite deficit in 1-2, Chen did not make Zhang Jike feel assured the entire match. In effect, the world champion found himself in a hard battle and the Chinese crowd at the edge of their seats.

Chen Chien An displayed all his potentials in the arena with the aim to upset the crowd favourite. Indeed, he forced a deciding set leaving Zhang Jike totally lost in the match. At the end, Chen Chien An defeated Zhang Jike in 11-9, 7-11, 6-11, 11-7, 11-8
