ITTF President Adham Sharara goes for the re-election

Adham Sharara, current President of the International Table Tennis Federation, announced during the 2013 Qatar Open that he will present for the re-election. Mr. Sharara, who has been president for 14 years, is the only candidate so far. The election will be held in May during the 2013 World Championships.

ITTF published on its web site that Adham Sharara, current President of the Federation, will go for the re-election. Mr. Sharara, made his announcement at the Executive Committee held during the 2013 Qatar Open. He has been in the highest position of Federation for 14 years. 

Under his leadership, table tennis has suffered several changes. At the beginning of the 2000s, the ball's size was increased from 38 mm to 40mm and 21 points games were reduced to 11 eleven points games, in order to make the sport more attractive to TV spectators. However, the most polemical change under his mandatory was the ban of booster, chemical substances used to increase the spin and speed of rubbers. 

Mr. Sharara is the only candidate for the president position so far, nominations will close on 15 April 2013. The election will be held during the 2013 World Championships Paris 2013.
