Since the latter part of 2011, Liu Shiwen started to post a comeback through her powerful performances which includes winning two consecutive ITTF Grand Finals championship titles against Ding Ning. Although she is doing well in the Women's Singles, her performance in the Team events was the opposite which even led her to miss the London Olympics. This only means that the upcoming World Team Cup will be a very great test for Liu Shiwen's capacity.

Sina Sports. The 2013 World Team Cup is going to officially start tomorrow, March 28, in the hometown of Liu Shiwen, Guangzhou. Although, she has been very good in the Women's Singles, Liu Shiwen has been considered a liability in the Team events.

Liu Shiwen has been a strong force for the past two years. Since the latter part of 2011, Liu Shiwen has posted a powerful comeback, clinching two consecutive ITTF Grand Finals championship titles. In addition, Liu Shiwen's style of play also made life difficult for the reigning world champion Ding Ning.

However, although Liu Shiwen's capabilities were seen in the Women's Singles, her performance in the Team events were not so promising. In fact, such results made her lose the chance to participate in the 2012 London Olympics.

In 2009, Liu Shiwen lost to Hong Kong's Jiang Huajun in the World Team Cup semifinals. A year later in Moscow, Liu Shiwen suffered a painful defeat against Singapore's Feng Tianwei and Wang Yuegu, contributing to the overall defeat of the Chinese Team in the World Team Championships.

In the same year, Liu Shiwen lost to Seok ha Jung in the Asian Games semifinals. The most recent record is last year. During the 2012 Asian Championships, Liu Shiwen lost to Yu Mengyu in the finals against Singapore.

With all these poor results, doubts as to her capacity were formed from the coaching staff. Eventually, the former head coach Shi Zhihao decided to leave Liu Shiwen out of the London Olympic Games lineup. Although not in the main lineup, Liu Shiwen still came to London to gain experience.

This year, before the World Championships in Paris, Liu Shiwen will have a big test as she will take part in the 2013 World Team Classic starting tomorrow in Guangzhou. Indeed, such opportunity comes with great pressure as well. If Liu Shiwen wants to increase her chances to be in the 2016 Rio Olympics, she should start to prove her reliability in the 2013 World Team Cup.
