Xu Xin & Ding Ning Confirm Participation In The 2013 Asian Table Tennis Cup (Videos)

The annual Asian Table Tennis Cup is scheduled to take place mid April this year in Hong Kong with the Chinese players Xu Xin and Ding Ning. Xu Xin is the defending champion for the Men's Singles while Liu Shiwen was last year's winner in the Women's Singles. But for this year, there is no confirmation that Liu Shiwen will be defending her title. 

 

Xinhua Net. Yesterday, March 6, a press conference was held to announce the participation of defending champion Xu Xin and world's top ranking player Ding Ning in the upcoming 2013 Asian Table Tennis Cup to be held on April in Hong Kong. 

As a tradition of table tennis in Asia, the Asian Table Tennis Cup is being held once a year inviting top-notched players from all over Asia to compete for recognition and camaraderie. This year, the competition is scheduled to take place in Queen Elizabeth Stadium in Hong Kong from April 12 to 14

The players that has been confirmed to participate are China's Xu Xin and Yan An, Singapore's Gao Ning, North Korean Kim Hyuk Bong, Iranian Noshad Alamiyan, and India's Sharath Kamal Achanta. The Chinese Xu Xin is the defending champion in the Men's Singles after crushing Japanese Maharu Yoshimura last year.

For the women's lineup, Chinese Ding Ning, Singapore's Feng Tianwei, Japanese Kasumi Ishikawa, Hong Kong's very own Tie Yana and Jiang Huajun will all grace the competition. The defending champion in this category is Liu Shiwen but there is no confirmation for her participation this year. She won against compatriot Wu Yang in 4-0.

The total prize money of this year's competition amounts to 100000 US dollars with the winners of the Men's and Women's Singles getting 14000 US dollars each.
