2013 Korean Open: Ma Long Leads The Quarterfinals (Videos)

Chinese players dominated the quarterfinal round of the Men's Singles after Ma Long, Wang Hao, Yan An and Xu Xin won all their battles today. This only means that it will be an all Chinese affair in the penultimate stage of the competition tomorrow. Meanwhile, in the women's side, Japanese Ai Fukuhara wasn't able to carry out success after she lost to Lee Ho Ching. 

 

ITTF. The 2013 Korean Open continued the competition today, April 6 with the quarterfinal rounds of the Singles events.

Men's Singles

After the painful defeat of Zhang Jike in the previous round, the Men's Singles progressed through the quarterfinals with expected results. 

The top seed Ma Long faced South Korea's pride Ryu Seng Min, At this point, Ryu was the only hope for the hosting team to go all the way. However, such task is difficult to carry out especially if against the formidable Ma Long. Indeed, despite speed and beautiful topspins from Ryu Seung Min, Ma Long maintained his fine form.

For the fourth consecutive time, Ma Long scored another sweep victory with 11-7, 11-5, 11-2, 11-8. 

Ma Long is set to face his teammate Wang Hao in the semifinals. Wang Hao advances further after he overcame the 2008 Olympic champion Ma Lin in six sets. Wang Hao scored 11-7, 7-11, 12-10, 11-7, 8-11, 12-10. 

The second seed Xu Xin had a rematch with the Japanese Jun Mizutani since the 2013 World Team Cup in Guangzhou last week. In such match, Mizutani prospered in giving the Chinese player a hard time. This time around in Incheon, Xu Xin learned his lesson and made sure there would be no repeat. Xu Xin won in 4-1 (11-9, 9-11, 11-4, 11-6, 11-8).

Yan An is the fourth Chines player to have gotten through the round after he ended the hopes of Japanese Taku Takakiwa in five sets (11-13, 11-5, 11-2, 11-8, 11-4).

Women's Singles 

After defeating the top seed Feng Tianwei in the previous round, the remaining South Korean player Seo Hyo Won is keeping the hopes of the home crowd alive. She continued success in the quarterfinals against Chen I Ching of Chinese Taipei. It was a 4-0 for Seo Hyo Won (11-9, 12-10, 11-9, 11-8). 

Seo Hyo Won will meet the Hong Kong player Lee Ho Ching who defeated the Japanese seed Ai Fukuhara. The Japanese doll lost to 2-4 (12-10, 7-11, 9-11, 8-11, 14-12, 7-11). 

While Ai Fukuhara lost in the round, her teammates, Kasumi Ishikawa and Hiroko Fujii hold the hopes for Japan. Ishikawa defeated Sayaka Hirano in 4-1 (10-12, 11-8, 11-8, 11-7, 11-8) while Fujii survived Huang Yi Hua of Chinese Taipei in 11-7, 11-7, 14-16, 8-11, 11-7, 7-11, 11-5.
