The ITTF North American Cup has new champions. Lily Zhang of USA and André Ho of Canada emerged successfully in the third edition of the continental competition. In the final the American player overcame none other than her compatriot Lily Zhang, who won the previus two editions. In the men's competition, Ho stood victorious over USA's Timothy Wang and secured the third title in a row for Canada.


USA's Lily Zhang and Canada's André Ho emerged as champions of the 2013 ITTF North American Cup after two days of competition. The women's competition was dominated totally by the USA. In her way to the final, second seeded Zhang posted victories over Canada's Sara Yuen by 3:0 and her compatriot Tina Lin by 4:0 in semifinals, while top seeded Ariel Hsing defeated her compatriots Angela Guan by 3:0 and Prachi Jha by 4:0 in semifinals. 

Ariel Hsing and Lily Zhang clashed in the final match. Although Zhang secured her victory by 4:1, it was a close match. Zhang won the first game by 11:7 but Hsing leveled by 11:8. Then Zhang took control of the match and got the next three games by 12:10, 11:8 and 11:9. The third place went to Jha, who beat Lin by 3:1. 

This is the first time that Zhang clinched the ITTF North American Cup, while Hsing won the previous two editions. However, it isn't the first time that Zhang stole a title from Hsing. In the 2012 US National Lily Zhang captured the title after beating Ariel Hsing by 4:3 in the final but Hsing had defeated Zhang in the final of the the two previous editions. 

André Ho of Canada clinched the title in the men's event but the USA had more presence in the podium. Ho overcame American Timothy Wang by 9:11, 11:8, 7:11, 11:7, 11:3 and 11:7. In semifinals Ho defeated USA's Allen Wang by 4:1, while Wang beat his compatriot Peter Li by 4:1. Top seeded and defending champion Pier-Luc Theriault suffered an early defeat by hands of Timothy Wang by 3:0 in quarterfinals. Li got the third place after beating Allen Wang by 4:3.
