The second round of the 2013 Chinese Super League took place today with the Grand Slam champion Zhang Jike still having a difficult time in the tournament. Today, he survived Ma Lin but failed against Timo Boll. Despite his poor performance, Shandong still won with the help of Fang Bo. Meanwhile, Ningbo posted a 3-0 against Guangdong for their opening round.

CTTSL. The 2013 Chinese Super League had their second round of the regular season today, June 23. Once again, Zhang Jike had a not so convincing performance in the tournament and lost a point against German Timo Boll.

Ningbo 3-0 Guangdong

After a free round in the opening last Wednesday, Ma Long and his Ningbo Team had their opening battle today and they faced Guangdong. Ma Long ushered the match with a 3-0 against Liu Jikang. After a powerful start, Yan An supplemented it with another 3-0 against Yin Hang. In the Doubles, Ningbo continued to be powerful as Yan An and Lin Gaoyuan posted a 2-1 victory against Liu Jikang and Li Yang.

Shanghai 3-1 Bazhou

Still without Wang Liqin, Xu Xin was solo in leading the Shanghai Team in the second round of the Super League. He ushered with a sweep against Zhai Chao in 11-5, 11-5, 11-8. Shang Kun did his part as well and offered the second point for Shanghai with a 3-1 win over Liang Jingkun. However, the momentum of Shanghai was broken after Bazhou's pair Zhai Chao and Cheng Jingqi defeated Shang Kun and Zhang Yang.

In the fourth match, Liang Jingkun returned and had a strong comeback against Xu Xin. He forced the Shanghai leader to a full stretch match. But Xu Xin prevailed with 3-2, 8-11, 11-8, 11-3, 8-11, 7-4.

Bayi 3-0 Tianjin

For the second time, Tianjin's leader Hao Shuai was not around and worse, their foreign aide Chuang Chih Yuan was also absent. Therefore, Tianjin had to put the responsibility to their other players against Bayi's full house. Wang Hao  started with a 3-0 against Pan Deng then followed by another 3-0 by Zhou Yu against Li Ping. Tiajin had a chance to recover in the Doubles wit Pan Deng and Chang Yeuk however Zhou Yu and Fan Zhendong was just determined to complete a sweep. Bayi's pair won in 2-1.

Shandong 3-2 Jiangsu

Out of the four matches in the men's division for this round, the battle between Shandong and Jiangsu was the more intense. Being held in the home court of Shandong, their opponent successfully gave them a hard time.

Last round, Timo Boll was not able to play and Jiangsu lost it. Today, they placed him as their first player and ushered the match with a 3-1 against Zhang Chao. Shandong's pride Zhang Jike was the second player and overcame Ma Lin in a close interval of 3-2 (11-9, 8-11, 11-7, 6-11, 7-5). Shandong's pair Zhang Chao and Fang Bo swept the former Olympic champs Ma Lin and Chan Qi in 2-0.

Eventually, Zhang Jike faced Timo Boll for the fourth set. Zhang Jike got the opening set but Timo Boll consistently recovered and levelled in 2-2. In the decider, Zhang Jike did not have any chance anymore. Timo Boll won in 6-11, 11-3, 8-11, 11-6, 7-1.

Their battle boiled down to Fang Bo and Chen Qi. With the heavy task of lifting the hopes of the home crowd, Fang Bo survived Chen Qi with 11-9, 6-11, 7-4.
