A new ball and a new pairing system for the Mixed Doubles will be implemented in the 2015 World Championships to be held in Suzhou, China. This was confirmed by no other than ITTF President Adham Sharara during his visit to Guangzhou recently. Now that the new ball has already been through all the process successfully, it is expected that starting next year, all ITTF tournaments will use that ball. Moreover, Sharara also approved the transnational pairing proposed by China.

Guangzhou Daily. Table Tennis will be going through new developments in the near future. First is the implementation of the new ball in all ITTF tournaments and the other one is the transnational pairing in a major competition.

After the 2008 Beijing Olympics, ITTF President Adham Sharara already commissioned the two giants, Shanghai's Double Happiness and Guangzhou's Double Fish to jointly develop a new material for the table tennis ball, hoping to completely eliminate the explosive properties of the current ball.

Through three years of hard work from both companies, the new ball has already been submitted to the ITTF Testing Centre. "The two companies submitted a ver good quality ball. I am very confident. Starting july next year, all ITTF tournaments will use the new table tennis ball." Adham Sharara said.

With this, the 2015 World Championships will be the first ever major competition to be using such ball. Moreover, it was announced that the competition will be held in Suzhou, China. Interestingly, the proposed transnational pairing by the Chinese Team's head coach Liu Guoliang will be realised on that same competition.

The Mixed Doubles event will allow Chinese players to pair up with members from other associations.

"With the intention of helping in the promotion of table tennis to other countries, they proposed for a transnational pairing for the Mixed Doubles. Such proposal is just terrific. The audience likes it so we support it." Adham Sharara added.

With this, the 2015 World Championships will mark another milestone in table tennis to be a home of a few new developments: new ball and new partnerships. Is Adham Sharara thinking of shaving his beard to have a new image as well?

Update: Dated August 6, ITTF says that transnational pairing is not confirmed for the 2015 World Championsips.
