Sina Sports. Zhang Jike, Xu Xin and Ma Long are three of the best players in current table tennis. However, in the 2013 Chinese Super League, there's only one who rise above the three and he is Ma Long who is not the strongest contender for this year's MVP.
Zhang Jike has proven himself in the international scene after creating a record breaking completion of his Grand Slam and a convincing defence of his title in the 2013 World Championships. In the domestic scene, Zhang Jike has been crowned as the Chinese Super League's Most Valuable Player or MVP for two consecutive seasons, 2010 and 2011.
However, last year, such titled was snatched by Zhang Jike's greatest rival, Ma Long. In the 2012 season, Ma Long nailed a record of 27 wins and 2 losses. During the whole tournament, Ma Long was able to post a 23-game winning streak which is the longest record ever in the history of the Super League. Without any doubt, Ma Long got the MVP award placing Zhang Jike in the runner up with 21 wins and 7 losses.
For this season, it seems there will be no change in the trend as Ma Long remains undefeated despite challenges especially in the sixth round while Zhang Jike has posted some already.
Ma Long and Zhang Jike maybe the household names in the Chinese Super League but current rankings show a contrary result. Currently, Yan An and Xu Xin are in the lead with 8 wins and 2 losses. Ma Lin is in third place with six wins and six losses.
Shandong's leader Zhang Jike is in the fourth place with 4 wins and 4 losses. Ma Long is in the fifth place with 5 wins and 0 losses. Timo Boll is the highest ranking foreign aide so far with 4 wins and three losses in the eighth place.
The regular stage still have 12 more rounds and these rankings are still expected to change.
