Sohu Sports. Ma Long is a major asset of the Chinese National Team. As the head coach, Liu Guoliang recognises Ma Long as a dominating figure after witnessing his impressive performance yesterday in the Men's Singles finals.
After the 2013 World Championships in Paris, members of the Chinese National Team spent more time with their respective clubs and provincial team for the Chinese Super League and the Chinese National Games. However, as the head coach of the National Team, Liu Guoliang was still closely monitoring his members.
Yesterday, Liu Guoliang witnessed an epic battle in the Men's Singles finals with the top seed Ma Long and the youngest player of the Chinese National Team, Fan Zhendong. "I feel extremely happy to see a very exciting game from the two players." Liu Guoliang said.
"The match was very valuable. Fan Zhendong was really fierce and his offences were driving us crazy. Ma Long was in a 2-3 deficit then was down in 8-9 in the sixth set. When he recovered, Fan Zhendong played weak. It was very difficult for him. I think through this experience, Ma Long has transformed from being a boy to a real man." He added.
Liu Guoliang thinks that through the match, Ma Long has now become the real backbone of the Chinese Team. Ma Long was one fast improving player and he had a lot of opportunities to prove himself. However, it is only until now that he somehow broke his psychological barriers.
"For so many years, Ma Long has been paying the price. His psychological barriers were hard for him to break. This time, he has done it. In the future, when he will encounter another terrible game, I hope that he will remember what he has been through in this match." Liu Guoliang concluded.
