Simon Gauzy was the centre of attention in the first round of the Bundesliga, since he made his debut for Ochsenhausen. The young player showed why he was chosen by this important club as he won his match against Ovidiu Ionescu of TTC Hagen and kept Ochsenhausen's hopes alive after the team was 0:2 down.
After his debut, we could interview Simon Gauzy and asked him about his debut, the atmosphere in the Bundesliga, his participation in the second division of the Chinese Super League and his goals in the 2013 European Championships.
TableTennista: 1. How did you feel in your first match in the Bundesliga, which was crucial for your team victory?
Simon Gauzy: "It was really stressful to come when we were 0-2 down for my first match . It was not the score I expected when I came in ... And I played really well . The crowd helped me a lot and I think that's why I played well and was able to win that crucial match."
TT: 2. Ochsenhausen played at home. What do you think about the atmosphere and how did fans receive you?
S.G.: "As I said , the atmosphere was really nice . I felt the spectators were behind me directly for my first match and it felt so good to have that support with me , Ochsenhausen fans looks awesome :)"
TT: 3. How often will we see you in the Bundesliga?
S.G.: "How often ? Ask to the coach ... :) but if I play good I guess I will play more and more!"
TT: 4. You arrived in one of the strongest clubs in Germany. How does it feel to be part of Ochsenhausen and to be team mate of a former Olympic champion?
S.G.: "It's a big honor for me to take part of this team and this club . I of course know the history of this club and to play in this team is like a dream for me . About Ryu , I have to say he was my idol when I was a kid ... I let you imagine how respectful I am to him , he is a huge champion and I hope I will learn a lot from him."
TT: 5. We knew that you were competing in the 2nd division of the Chinese League. Could you tell us about that experience (competition, players, training, for example)?
S.G.: "Thats true I played there . That was an incredible experience . I had an unbelievable journey to get there. I was the only European player with Jorgen Persson there . I didn't practice there just played matches. Every player there are good , even when they are young they are very very hard to beat . My team expected to not go down in 3rd division at the beginning but I finished with an incredible balance there with 7/7 and it helped them to finish in the 4 best teams of the league!"
TT: 6. You were nominated for the 2013 European Championships. Which are your goals in that competition?
S.G.: "France is unlucky with the draw in this European championships ... We will play against German team , the best and it will be really hard to catch a medal then ... We will try our best anyway .
In single it also depend of the draw but I trust in myself and I can beat many good players and I know those good players won't be happy to meet me ... :)"
