PingPang World. At his prime, Timo Boll had high expectations in the 2012 London Olympic Games. So when he failed to stand in the medal podium, he was disappointed and looks forward for the next Olympic Games in 2016.
The 31-year old Timo Boll had his fourth participation in the Olympic Games in London. With this, he already had enough experience to survive the intensity. However, the German player was not able to stay longer in the competition. In his second round, the Round 16, Boll was eliminated by Adrian Crisan (9-11, 11-8, 13-15, 10-12, 6-11).
"I actually devoted great expectations upon myself in the London Olympics because at that time, I felt that my condition was very good. In addition, as a European player, 31 years old is a prime age. Therefore, after losing, I was extremely disappointed." Timo Boll said.
"The London Olympics, as a whole is a very tough game. I do not know what happen. Just as it started, I felt that I was in a very good condition. But I wasn't able to play well later. I feel very disappointed and I did not have self confidence." He added.
After the Singles, Timo Boll needed to adjust quickly for the Men's Team event. "In a very short time, the Team competition started. For me, the Team event had more pressure than the individual event. That is because the weight of the German hopes is on me. I needed to tell myself that the most important thing is the confidence. Just adjust your state better and don't worry about anything else." Boll explained.
Indeed, Timo Boll made an impact in the Team event after he defeated the Olympic Singles champion Zhang Jike in the semifinals. However, China still prevailed and eventually clinched the championship title and Germany got the bronze.
After a not so good performance in the Olympic Singles, Timo Boll hoped to adhere until the 2016 Rio Olympics and he thinks that being in the Super League would be a great help to his goal.
"As of now, the situation is different because I played in the Super League. I can learn a lot of things. In addition, I was able to defeat three Chinese masters in my last rounds. I feel that my condition was unprecedentedly good. As long as there are no big surprises, I feel that I can set another goal for the Rio Olympics." Timo Boll concluded.
