Zhang Jike has once again failed his critics. In the final day of the Chinese Team's Squad Trials, Zhang Jike completed a 10-game winning streak which included victories over his biggest opponents, Xu Xin, Fan Zhendong, and Ma Long. As a reward, he gets to be the first Chinese representative for the 2014 World Championships and at the same time, received the praise of his biggest critic, Liu Guoliang.

Sina Sports. The 2014 WTTC Chinese Squad Trials ended yesterday, January 29 with Zhang Jike as the champion, after winning over Xu Xin, Fan Zhendong and Ma Long. Posting an impressive 10-game winning streak just impressed Liu Guoliang

An encounter between Zhang Jike and Ma Long ended the four-day Squad Trials of the Chinese Team for the 2014 World Championships. For Liu Guoliang, these two names are indeed representatives of the highest level in men's table tennis.

"This battle has demonstrated today's highest level in men's table tennis. In this era, the duel of Zhang Jike and Ma Long is in the table tennis books." The head coach said.

The Grand Slam champion Zhang Jike started the trials with a defeat against Liang Jingkun. This somehow made the people not optimistic. However, who would have known that the young champion would quickly recover from the loss and post a 10-game winning streak, including against strong opponents like Xu Xin, Fan Zhendong and Ma Long in the finals.

Head coach Liu Guoliang was also one of the people who was not expecting Zhang Jike to win.

"This time, Zhang Jike has indeed given me a big surprise. His performance was beyond my expectation and imagination. Honestly speaking, before coming here, if I would think of it, I feel Ma Long would win the trials." Liu Guoliang admitted.

However, Liu Guoliang was proven wrong. He saw a different Zhang Jike. "Why am I not optimistic about Zhang Jike, it is determined by the kind of attitude he had. However, after coming here in Zhenjiang, I discovered that Zhang Jike was completely different than before. Today, Zhang Jike entered into the right state very quickly and the long schedule obviously did not shake Zhang Jike because in the competition, he fully demonstrated the advantages of his backhand. This is difficult for Ma Long." Liu Guoliang concluded.
