The Portuguese Table Tennis Team caused sensation after winning the European Team Championships' title at home soil. Marcos Freitas, Tiago Apolonia and Joao Monteiro made history as they overcame Germany in a thrilling final match. Their feat wasn't only recognized by the world of table tennis, but also by Portugal's President who awarded the players.

Marcos Freitas, Tiago Apolonia, Joao Monteiro, Joao Geraldo and Diogo Chen made history in October as they beat Germany in the European Team Championships' finals and clinched the team title for first time. 

The victory reached at home soil hasn't been forgotten in Portugal. Anibal Cavaco, Portugal's President, invited the players to the Belem National Palace to an awarding ceremony. 

On December 1, Freitas and Co. received the Order of Prince Henry for exceptional and outstanding merit for Portugal. But the players weren't the only ones awarded. Pedro Rufino, Portuguese team's coach, and Pedro Moura, President of the Portuguese Table Tennis Federation, received the Order of Merit.
