Xu Xin has consistently been a strong force in the competition and that explains why he reached the finals of the 2014 Qatar Open Men's Singles. Against Chuang Chih Yuan, Xu Xin's performance had some shaky moments but that wasn't much of a trouble as he succeeded in clinching the title to himself. In the women's division, Hu Limei defeated Liu Jia for the championship.

ITTF. The 2014 Super Series Qatar Open had its conclusion today, February 23 with the finals matches in the Singles. Despite some challenge, Chinese players Xu Xin and Hu Limei were proclaimed as winners.

Xu Xin has consistently been a strong force in the competition explaining why he reached the finals. As the second seed, Xu Xin faced a strong opponent as well, Chuang Chih Yuan, seeded sixth. Xu Xin started quite slow with a 0-4 deficit but he was quick to catch up. There might have been some resistance from the opponent, but Xu Xin got the opening set.

With a 0-4 in the prior game, Xu Xin responded with a commanding 7-0 lead in the second game. Unsurprisingly, Xu Xin got a 2-0 lead. Chuang Chih Yuan fought more active in the third game. Somehow, he was able to distract his opponent and nailed a 10-4 lead. Chuang Chih Yuan got the set to his name.

The strong performance from Chuang did not waiver Xu Xin. Instead, the Chinese second seed answered with almost equal amount of power as well. Eventually, Chuang Chih Yuan was led to much danger as he found himself in 1-3 deficit.

Xu Xin started the fifth game very dominant which forced Chinese Taipei to call for a timeout. After the game resumed, such call did not give much benefit as Xu Xin's score continued to increase. Ultimately, the second seed Xu Xin completed a 4-1 victory for his third Qatar Open championship title (13-11, 11-4, 4-11, 11-6, 11-5).

Women's Singles

The Chinese Team sent their young players for the women's event in the tournament and their last woman standing was Hu Limei who succeeded in reaching the finals. However, she still has one more mission and that is to clinch the title against Liu Jia of Austria.

Knowing what to expect from a Chinese player, despite being young and lacking experience, Liu Jia knew she had to work double that is if she wanted to win the title. She may have lost the opening set but she led in 2-1. This, of course, made Hu Limei step up her game. She did not just level in 2-2 but converted a 5-6 deficit to an 11-6.

Sensing danger, Liu Jia managed to have a 10-8 advantage in the sixth set but lost it when Hu Limei tied in 10-10. Liu Jia still had opportunities after that but she can't just capitalise. After losing several set points, Hu Limei ended it with 11-9, 9-11, 9-11, 11-8, 11-6, 14-12.
