The German Open has a lot of meaning for Fan Zhendong. Last year, this young sensation from the Chinese Team overcame world champions to clinch his second World Tour title in his career. This year, Fan Zhendong has a very good chance to defend his title as he is the top seed in the Men's Singles. However, challenge will certainly be encountered as the host's big guns will be on duty.

ITTF. The international table tennis competition returns to Magdeburg this year for the German Open and the top seed is the 17-year old sensation Fan Zhendong, who is also the defending champion.

The Chinese Team has already started their 40-day Closed Training in preparation for the World Team Championships. But two of the members of the National Team will be taking some time off from training to take part in the German Open.

To be held in Magdeburg on March 26 to 30, the German Open will have Chinese Team's Wang Hao and Fan Zhendong. For this competition, China will also have newbies Zhou Qihao, Yu Ziyang, Zhou Kai and Liu Xiang.

The German Open means a lot for Fan Zhendong. Although it was not his first World Tour title for him, it was the competition where his status as a professional athlete rose exponentially. Last year, Fan Zhendong simultaneously defeated Zhang Jike, Vladimir Samsonov and Dimitrij Ovtcharov, and won the championship title.

Although Fan Zhendong may have a good chance to win this time with his experience now, there are a number of worthy and difficult adversaries.

Starting off are the host's big guns, Timo Boll and Dimitrij Ovtcharov. Aside from them, Europe will also be well represented by Vladimir Samsonov, Michael Maze, Marcos Freitas, Tiago Apolonia, Adrian Crisan, among others.

In addition, the South Korean Cho Eon Rae is also listed in the competition. It is still not too long ago when Fan Zhendong was defeated by Cho Eon Rae in the Qatar Open.
