Spread the love for Table Tennis!

Whether anti or pro, the table tennis community is already in anticipation as to the newest change that would take effect this year, the new plastic table tennis ball. Despite negative feedbacks, it seems that there is no stopping this change and for the Chinese Team, it best to prepare early. The second team has started training with the new ball and their coach, Liu Guozheng gave his assessment.

PingPang World. As the head coach of the Chinese second men's team, Liu Guozheng has already started their training with the new ball.

"The new table tennis ball is made of plastic and its diameter is bigger than the old one. The celluloid ball was generally 39.6mm in diameter. The new one is about 40.2mm. Despite the increase in size, there is no material change in terms of the weight."

Harder, thinner, and more fragile. Those are the overall assessment of Liu Guozheng connected to the size.

Rotation, strength, and speed

"The difference between playing with the new ball and the old celluloid ball is very much obvious. Rotation, strength, and speed, all have weakened. Before, you can feel the rotation during chops. Now, you can feel that the rotation is not so strong."

For him, the new ball also threatens the degree of power in the match. Since the movements and speed are affected, the match might just get weak.

However, Liu Guozheng thinks that there are also positive effects as to the changes. Since there is a decrease in speed, players will have more time to judge and think on their next move. In addition, he also thinks that because of the difficulty in managing the new ball, the intensity of the match will increase.
