The 2014 World Tour moved from Asia to Africa. The city of Lagos is hosting the 2014 Nigeria Open that kicked off yesterday. The tournamnet won't count on the highest world ranked players, but it doesn't mean that it won't be an exciting event. The favorite in the men event is Omar Assar, while Luxemburg's Ni Xialian has the first chance to win the title.

The action of the 2014 World Tour continues in Africa. Yesterday the 2014 Nigeria Open started with the qualification rounds. In this tournament we won't see high ranked players such as Jun Mizutani, Chuang Chih-Yuan or Li Xiaoxia, who competed in the previous World Tour events, but that doesn't mean that we won't see amazing matches.

Unfortunately, we don't normally see African countries competing in the World Tour circuit, even though Egypt and Morocco have hosted events in the previous years. It can be said that Egypt is the only African country that regularly participate in the circuit. But the 2014 Nigeria Open is setting a precedent in terms of African countries in competition, because 12 of the 15 nations in competition are from Africa.

Benin, Congo Brazzaville, Cameroon, Congo Democratic, Egypt, Ghana, Libya, Morocco, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Togo and Tunisia are the 12 countries in the Nigerian capital of Lagos. Russia and Luxemburg are representing Europe, while Singapore waves the flag for Asia.

In the men event African players are the top seeds: Omar Assar, El-Sayed Lashin and Segun Toriola. But Russia and Singapore can give a surprise. In the women event Luxemburg's Ni Xialian is the top seed. Egypt's Dina Meshref, Congo Brazzaville's Han Xing, and Nigeria's Offiong Edem are the next in the seeding list.
