Marcos Freitas was the biggest victim in the second round of the 2016 German Open. The Portuguese player suffered defeat against Japan's Kaii Yoshida. Ma Long, Dimitrij Ovtcharov, Timo Boll and Zhang Jike already secured a place in quarterfinals. 

Marcos Freitas said good-bye to the 2016 German Open. The European runner-up was beaten by Japan's Kaii Yoshida by 16-14, 11-8, 6-11, 11-8 and 11-6. In a few hours Yoshida will meet Ma Long in quarterfinals. The world champion didn't have problems to beat Japan's Koki Niwa by 11-7, 11-3, 11-1 and 11-7. 

Yan An also was eliminated in the second round. He fell against Chuang Chih-Yuan by 11-7, 7-11, 10-12, 11-6, 11-7 and 11-7. In the next match Chuang will face Dimitrij Ovtcharov. To reach quarterfinals, the German player overcame Tang Peng by 11-5, 11-8, 11-6 and 13-11. 

Zhang Jike had a hard rival but he managed to suceed against Hong Kong's Wong Chun Ting by 11-6, 5-11, 15-13, 8-11, 9-11 and 4-11. In quarterfinals he will meet his teammate Fang Bo, who eliminated Poland's Wang Zengyi by 11-6, 11-9, 11-8 and 11-8. 

Timo Boll was also challenged in the second round. He defeated Croatia's Andrej Gacina by 6-11, 11-9, 11-2, 11-5, 9-11 and 12-10. The quarterfinal match will be a duel of Europea champion. The German star will meet Vladimir Samsonov, who beat Qatar's Li Ping by 11-6, 11-5, 11-6, 4-11 and 11-8.
