Each game, each opponent will always have an impression on each player. For the table tennis legend, Jan-Ove Waldner considers the Chinese coaches Liu Guoliang and Kong Linghui as the greatest people in his life. In fact, he wants to play against them one more time. Liu Guoliang said that he may accept the invitation after the Rio Olympics.

Beijing News. Jan-Ove Waldner is a legend in table tennis and the legend gives importance to his long-time friends Liu Guoliang and Kong Linghui.

“In my table tennis career, my most cherished friends are Liu Guoliang and Kong Linghui. Their skills and characters are hard to forget. In the arena, we are opponents. After that, we are good friends. This feeling is difficult to find between other western players.” Jan-Ove Waldner said.

During the peak of Waldner’s success, his major opponents were Liu Guoliang and Kong Linghui but it was not just any competition. It was a healthy competition between them that allowed each of them to be better players.

Unfortunately, the Swedish Team nowadays hasn’t maintained their capacity as a team. Waldner pointed out that there are not much new players from western teams unlike China.

“The Chinese Team has new faces and new people will come out few years later. While in western countries like Sweden, there are not much new players. A lot of players are playing for 19 or even 20 years. There’s no other way.” Waldner added.

Last year, Waldner said in his interview that he really looks forward to playing with Liu Guoliang and Kong Linghui in the Chinese League. The Chinese head coach said that after the Rio Olympics, he may accept the invitation. However, Liu Guoliang said: “Playing a match now, we are not his opponents anymore!”
