England continues making history at the 2016 World Team Championships held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The English team just defeated France in a nail-biting quarterfinal match and will meet Japan in semifinals. China and South Korea will clash in the first semifinals. 

ITTF. England among the best of the world in Kuala Lumpur. The English team continues making history after defeating France in quarterfinals of the 2016 World Team Champonships. France was the favorite for being the second top seed and for winning against England by 3-0 in the group phase, but England made stronger in the main draw. 

The French team took the lead as Simon Gauzy beat Paul Drinkhall by 11-9, 11-8 and 11-8. Liam Pitchford leveled the score with a win over Emmanuel Lebesson by 11-8, 11-6 and 11-9. 

In the third match Tristan Flore put France up in the score again. He overcame Samuel Walker by 11-8, 11-5, 7-11 and 11-7. But Pitchford went back to the table to level the score again. He stood victorious over Gauzy by 12-10, 19-21, 11-9 and 11-9. 

In the fifth match Drinkhall faced Lebesson. The French player managed to be 2-1 up (13-15, 11-8, 11-9) but Drinkhall leveled by 11-9. The English player kept leading and got 4 match points but Lebesson fought back and saved them. Lebesson had a match point as well but Drinkhall saved it and eventually sealed his victory by 13-11. 

The English team will face Japan in semifinals. Jun Mizutani & Co. emerged successfully over Hong Kong by 3-1. 

In the first semifinals China will meet South Korea. To reach semifinals the world champions swept with Sweden. South Korea defeated Portugal by 3-1.
