Cuba enjoyed great success on the first day at the ITTF Latin American Qualification Tournament held in Santiago de Chile. Andy Pereira and Jorge Campos booked the first two places to Rio 2016. 


Cuba silenced the local crowd at the ITTF Latin American Qualification Tournament which is being held in Santiago de Chile. Andy Pereira and Jorge Campos emerged successfully over Chile's Felipe Olivares and Gustavo Gomez

In the first match Pereira was the favorite against Gomez but the Chilean player proved why he got into the final stage. Previously Gomez overcame Paraguay's Marcelo Aguirre and Argentina's Pablo Tabachnik

The Cuban player took the lead by 11-5 and 11-4, but Gomez fought back and managed to win the next three games by 11-9, 11-9 and 161-4. In the sixth game Pereira saved a match point and leveled by 12-10. In the deciding game the Cuban player secured hir victory by 11-8 and his second time at the Olympic Games. 

In the second deciding match Jorge Campos met Felipe Olivares. The Chilean player has beaten top seeded Gustavo Tsuboi of Brazil in the previous match but he couldn't repeat his performance against the Cuban player. Campos secured his win by 11-3, 11-8, 11-7, 4-11 and 18-16.
