The World Team Championships is one of the most important competitions in the table tennis sport but Dimitrij Ovtcharov chose to retire from this year’s competition due to injury. Sina Sports. Dimitrij Ovtcharov is one of the first players in table tennis to qualify for the Rio Olympics and it is more important for him than the World Team Championships.

In this year’s World Team Championships, the German Men’s Team was not able to reach the main draw after poor performance in the group stage. One of the factors was that the team lacked the comprehensive strength as Dimitrij Ovtcharov decided to retire from the competition due to injury.

So does Ovtcharov think that retiring from an important competition like the World Team Championships was a good decision?

“Certainly yes. I need to fight in a lot of matches in the World Team Championships. That would lead to a much worse injury and may even result to a surgery. It will take more time to recover. The time before the Olympic Games is very valuable. So, I am very pleased that my physical condition has gotten better.” Dimitrij Ovtcharov answered.
