Timo Boll was one of the players who yesterday secured a place at the Olympic Games Rio 2016. The German star emerged successfully over Robert Gardos in the deciding match. Marcos Freitas, Tiago Apolonia and Bastian Steger also booked a ticket to Rio de Janeiro. 

Timo Boll will go for his long-for Olympic medal in singles at Rio 2016. Yesterday the German player defeated Robert Gardos by 11-9, 11-7, 11-3 and 11-4 in secured a place at the Olympic Games. His teammate Bastian Steger was also one of the qualifiers. Steger overcame Croatia's Andrej Gacina by 12-10, 14-12, 5-11, 11-6, 4-11 and 11-9 in the final match.

Dimitrij Ovtcharov is the best ranged German player and he will be one of the players in the singles event. Boll should join him in the singles event but German coach Jorg Rosskopf has the last word. 

Portugal also secured its participation in the singles and team event. Tiago Apolonia overcame Liam Pitchford by 2-11, 12-10, 11-8, 8-11, 11-9, 9-11 and 11-8. Marcos Freitas stood victorious over Turkey's Li Ahmet by 13-11, 8-11, 13-11, 13-11 and 11-9.
