Europe and Asia were the last continents to define their qualifiers to the Olympic Games in April. Latin America and North America also defined their qualifiers but the road to Rio 2016 began previously for Africa and Oceania and Oceania which knew their representatives in February and March. 

Continental Olympic Qualification Tournaments are over. Africa was the first continent to know their representatives. Nigeria's Offiong Edem and Tunisia's Safa Saidani booked a place to Rio in February. Nigeria's Segun Toriola and Congo Brazzaville's Suraju Saka also got tickets to Rio. They joined the players who qualified at the 2015 African Games. 

The qualifiers in the women's event are: Egypt's Dina Meshref, Egypt's Nadeen El-Dawlatly, Congo Brazzaville's Xing Han and Nigeria's Olofunke Oshonaike. Egypt's Omar Assar, Nigeria's Quadri Aruna, Congo Brazzaville's Jianan Wang and Egypt's Khalid Assar are the male qualifiers. 

The secons Continental event was in Oceania. The qualifiers were: Australia's David Powell, Australia's Yan Xin Chris, Australia's Lay Jian Feng, Australia's Melissa Tapper, Fiji's Sally Yee. 

The next Continental Qualification Tournament was the Latin American Olympic Qualification held in the first days of April. The qualifiers in the women's event are: Puerto Rico's Adriana Diaz, Colombia's Lady Ruano, Brazil's Lin Gui, Brazil's Caroline Kumahara, Mexico's Yadira Silva and Venezuela's Gremlis Arvelo

The qualifiers in the men's event are: Cuba's Andy Pereira, Cuba's Jorge Campos, Mexico's Marcos Madrid, Puerto Rico's Brian Afanador and Brazil's Gustavo Tsuboi. They joined Brazil's Hugo Calderano who won the Pan American Games Toronto 2015 and got a ticket to Rio 2016. 

The next Qualification Tournament was held in North America, where the qualifiers were: USA's Lily Zhang, Canada's Zhang Mo, Canada's Eugene Wang, USA's Feng Yijun and USA's Kanak Jha. USA's Wu Yue was already qualified after winning the 2015 Pan American Games. 

Europe also defined their qualifiers in April. In the men's event the players who got a ticket to Rio were: Panagiotis Gionis, Timo Boll, Marcos Freitas, Tiago Apolonia, Alexander Shibaev, Par Gerell, Bojan Tokic, Emmanuel Lebesson, Jonathan Groth and Lei Kou. The qualifiers in the women's event are: Han Ying, Petrissa Solja, Hu Melek, Yu Fu, Li Qian, Polina Mikhailova, Liu Jia, Li Jie, Li Fen and Matilda Ekholm

The last Continental Olympic Qualification Tournament was held in Asia. Ma Long head the men's list and the players who complete the list are: Chen Feng, Soumyajit Ghosh, Li Ping, Nima Alamian, Kirill Gerassimenko, Sharath Kamal Achanta, Chen Chien-An, Ho Kwan Kit, Noshad Alamiyan and Zokhid Kenjaev.

The qualifiers in the women event are: Li Xiaoxia, Feng Tianwei, Manika Batra, Mariana Sahakian, Neda Shahsavari, Ri Myong Sun, Suthasini Sawettabut, Kim Song I, Nanthana Komwong, Mouma Das and Ian Lariba.
