The Asian Olympic Qualifier and the Asian Cup are two of the big competitions held last month and this has affected the latest world rankings released by the ITTF just recently. In the result, Ma Long continues to lead the men for the 15th time while Wong Chun Ting gets one step higher. Meanwhile, Liu Shiwen is the leading player in the women’s division. 

Sina Sports. The ITTF has just released the latest world rankings and it shows not much movements as to the top players in the world. 

There are two big competitions in the month of April and these were the Asian Olympic Qualifier and the recently concluded Asian Cup held in Dubai. These two competitions had an effect on the world rankings for the month of May. 

The winner in the Olympic qualifier was Ma Long and he doesn’t just won his qualification for the Olympics but it also ensured the top spot for the 15th time since March of 2015. As for the winner in the Asian Cup, Xu Xin remains at the third spot.

The runners-up, Fan Zhendong and Zhang Jike are both in second and fourth places respectively. Dimitrij Ovtcharov also remained unmoved in fifth place. Jun Mizutani and Chuang Chih Yuan exchanged places in 6th and 7th spots respectively. 

Wong Chun Ting, who got the bronze in the Asian Cup got a precious increase in his rankings as he went up from 9 to 8th spot. The Hong Kong player replaced Vladimir Samsonov who is not at 9th place. Sealing the top 10 is Timo Boll who gets back to the elite group of players after ranking 11 last month.

As for the women’s division, top 1 to 5 is the same with Liu Shiwen leading the rankings. She is followed by Ding Ning, Zhu Yuling, Kasumi Ishikawa, and Li Xiaoxia. Feng Tianwei is now at 6th place while Ai Fukuhara dropped one spot lower to 7. 

Chen Meng, Han Ying, and Mima Ito complete the top 10 for the women’s division.
